How to Check Your iPhone Battery Health and When to Replace It
If your iPhone dies by lunch, the battery is usually telling you why. Here is how to read the numbers and decide.
Open Settings, Battery, Battery Health and Charging. Maximum Capacity compares your battery to when it was new. Above 85 percent, behaviour should feel normal. Between 80 and 85 percent you will notice shorter days. Below 80 percent, Apple considers the battery consumed and replacement is the fix, not a new phone.
Also check Peak Performance Capability. If the phone has applied performance management after an unexpected shutdown, that is the battery struggling to deliver peak power.

Before paying for a battery, rule out software: the battery usage list shows if one app is draining you. If the battery is the problem, an Apple battery service typically costs a fraction of a new phone and makes a three year old iPhone feel new again. Compare that cost against the trade-in value before you decide.
